A new league. A new challenge. And another big step forward for Cambrian United.
On Sunday, we travel to the DragonBet Stadium to face Penybont in our first-ever Genero Adran South league fixture, officially beginning life at Tier 2 of the Welsh women’s pyramid.
It is a significant moment for the club and for women’s football in Rhondda Cynon Taf, as we take the next step in our journey representing the Rhondda at national league level.
Our place in the Adran South was confirmed late in pre-season following the withdrawal of Taffs Well. Having finished runners-up in the SWWGL Combined League at Tier 3 last season, we earned the opportunity to make the step up, but confirmation left us with just four days to prepare for the beginning of the new campaign.
It has meant playing catch-up throughout September, but our cup fixtures have given the squad valuable competitive minutes and an opportunity to prepare for what will be a significant step up in standard.
Now, the league campaign begins.
Sunday will give us our first indication of where we sit at this level. We know there will be plenty to learn and plenty of development to come over the course of the season, but that is exactly the challenge we wanted.
THE OPPOSITION
Penybont provide our first Adran South test and are an established side at this level, having finished fourth last season.
They are still searching for their first win of the new campaign and come into Sunday following a 5-0 defeat against Carmarthen.
We are also yet to record our first win of the season following our September cup fixtures, meaning both sides head into the opening league encounter looking to get their campaigns moving.

TEAM NEWS
The Cambrian squad continues to take shape following our late promotion, with further additions still to be announced over the coming days.
One player already back in sky blue is Niamh Duggan, who returns to Cambrian following a spell with Barry Town United in the Genero Adran Premier.
Niamh recorded 20 goal contributions during our SWWGL Combined League campaign last season and played a major role in a season that would ultimately earn us promotion to Tier 2. She returns with further experience from the top level of the Welsh domestic game and adds another attacking threat to the squad.
REPRESENTING THE RHONDDA
It is another exciting season for Cambrian United as a whole.
Our men have made a strong start following their own promotion to the Cymru Premier, and on Sunday it is the women’s turn to begin life at a new level.
From Clydach Vale to the Cymru Premier and the Genero Adran South, we are proud to be carrying the Cambrian name and representing Rhondda Cynon Taf as the club continues to move forward.
Sunday is the next step.
