Cambrian United return home on Bank Holiday Monday for another huge afternoon of Novira Cymru Premier football as Liam Williams’ side welcome Penybont to the M&P 3G.
It promises to be one of the biggest occasions of the season so far, with a bumper Bank Holiday crowd expected as Rhondda Cynon Taf welcomes one of the league’s most ambitious clubs.
Back Home in RCT
The Cam Army return home following Friday night’s trip north to face Connah’s Quay Nomads.
It proved a difficult evening for Cambrian, with the Nomads running out 3–0 winners. There is little time to dwell on the result, however, with the quick Bank Holiday turnaround giving Liam Williams and his squad an immediate opportunity to respond in front of their own supporters.
Cambrian have already shown during the opening weeks of their first Cymru Premier campaign that they are capable of competing at this level, and Monday provides another major test.
The Opposition – Penybont
Penybont make the short journey from Bridgend to Rhondda Cynon Taf as one of the most ambitious clubs in the Novira Cymru Premier.
The Bridgend club announced significant new investment ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, with the investment targeted towards developing the first team, academy, facilities and wider community programmes.
That ambition has also been reflected in their recruitment.
Penybont have significantly strengthened their squad over the summer, bringing in a number of players with experience from the English Football League and National League.
Former Nottingham Forest, Coventry City and Portsmouth striker Tyler Walker joined the club earlier this month following his departure from Barrow, bringing significant EFL experience to the squad.
Their ambition was underlined even further this week with the signing of Jonathan Leko.
The 27-year-old arrives with extensive experience in the English professional game, having represented the likes of West Bromwich Albion, Birmingham City, Charlton Athletic and MK Dons. Leko also represented England at youth level and made his Premier League debut for West Brom at just 16 years old.
The addition of players of that calibre demonstrates the strength of the challenge facing Cambrian on Monday and the level Penybont are looking to reach following their recent investment.
Under manager Rhys Griffiths, Penybont have already established themselves among the leading clubs in Welsh domestic football, with European experience in recent seasons.
Monday therefore represents another opportunity for Liam Williams’ squad to test themselves against a side with significant experience and ambition.
More Than 90 Minutes
Monday is about more than just the football, with plenty happening around the M&P 3G throughout the afternoon.
BBC Radio Wales and Day Fever presenter Molly Palmer will provide the soundtrack to the afternoon as our matchday DJ, while Wayne Crichton and Rhondda Radio will be involved in the matchday entertainment.
Our Cambrian United Academy will also be represented, with young players taking part as mascots and flag bearers ahead of kick-off.
Supporters are encouraged to arrive early, enjoy the Bank Holiday atmosphere and get behind Liam Williams and the players.
