Cambrian United are delighted to announce the signing of Alex John ahead of the club’s historic first season in the Cymru Premier.
The Aberdare-born midfielder returns to the club where his football journey began, having previously come through the Cambrian United academy before being recruited by Swansea City’s academy at Under-13 level.
Since leaving Cambrian, Alex has enjoyed an impressive career path through the professional and semi-professional game. After progressing through Swansea City’s academy system, he earned a move to Yeovil Town, where he gained valuable experience in senior football, including a loan spell with Gosport Borough.
Alex later joined Hull City’s Under-23 setup, continuing his development in a professional environment before making the move back to SouthWales with Merthyr Town in 2021.
Since joining Merthyr Town, Alex has established himself as a key figure and earned a reputation as one of the area’s most talented players, attracting significant interest from a number of clubs.
Despite that interest, Alex has chosen Cambrian United as the next chapter in his career as the club prepares for its inaugural Cymru Premier campaign.
His arrival represents another important statement of intent from the club, while also highlighting Cambrian’s commitment to providing opportunities for local talent from across Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Speaking on his return to the club, Alex said:
“Coming back to Cambrian is a really proud moment for me. This is where my football journey started and it’s great to be returning at such an exciting time for the club.
“The ambition around the club is clear to see and the opportunity to play in the Cymru Premier was something that really appealed to me. I can’t wait to get started, meet the supporters and help the team have a successful season.”

“Alex is a player we’ve admired for a long time. He brings quality, experience and a real understanding of what it means to represent this area.
“There was strong interest in Alex from elsewhere, so we’re delighted he has chosen Cambrian. He’s another player who will add real quality to the squad as we prepare for the challenges of the Cymru Premier.”
